Mother's Day thoughtfulness...

Meet Karen and John.

Karen is a dear friend and one of the most original human beings on the face of the earth: those of us fortunate enough to know her were pretty much in agreement of the fact that she is one of a kind. Then we met John, her younger brother and it turns out that God made an extra Karen of the opposite sex just in case the first one didn't work out. Anyhow, they decided that for Mother's Day they wanted to get some son/daughter togetherness shots (John lives in Guelph so it was a rare opportunity).  We headed out into Stanley Park on a lovely spring day and here's some of what we (well, they) came up with.

Usually a big part of my job is to act as a kind of director, trying to make folks comfortable in front of the lens and all. Karen, however, is a director (television and documentary) and as such she had something to say about how the whole thing was going to go.  In all honesty I can't believe that a single shot turned out as I was in stitches the entire time. The relationship these two have is something akin to an old bickering couple and the number of sentences that one started and the other finished was both unnerving and a window onto what must have been a childhood of ridiculousness that most of us could only imagine.

Of course I wasn't able to get a single standard portrait out of these two although in fairness to me it wasn't even close to a standard portrait shoot. And while I have no idea what their mother will think I imagine there will be a fair amount of eye-rolling and resigned acceptance.

 Happy Mother's Day Mrs. D!
